Keep watching when the window is closed
A quiet log of drops, roams and outages, even with the window closed. Off until you turn it on.
Pauses and drops come and go, so one check can miss them. Keep watching logs them as they happen, so you can see when, and send your provider the times.
Turn it on
- Open Plain Air › Settings (⌘,) and choose Watching.
- Turn on Keep watching when closed: “A quiet log of drops, roams and outages: about 13 small packets every 30 seconds, no scans.”
- To keep it going after a restart, also turn on Open at login.
You can also press Keep Watching on the Timeline. All three Watching settings are off until you turn them on, and keeping watch comes with the unlock. What does it cost?
What it logs
- Wi-Fi dropped and Wi-Fi back
- Moved to another access point
- Internet down; your Wi-Fi stayed up and Internet back
- Pauses
The Timeline shows the log and sums it up, such as “Your Wi-Fi dropped twice in the last 12 hours.” The report adds the last 24 hours. The log stays on your Mac for 30 days.
While watching is on, closing the window leaves Plain Air running. To stop, turn it off in Settings, or quit Plain Air (⌘Q). Watching pauses while a check or a speed test runs, so they don’t measure each other.
