The Check screen
The answer first, then the path, what to change and the facts of your connection.
Check (⌘1) is where Plain Air opens. From the top:
- When it was measured: for example “Measured 2 minutes ago, with a scan that heard 18 other networks.”
- The sentence: what Plain Air found, in large type, with one line under it on what it means for you. The sentence at the top
- The path: This Mac, Your router, Apple and DNS server, each stretch with its time and a word. The path
- What to change: the first three changes, each with why. All 3 with steps opens What to change. When nothing is off it says “Nothing to change. Check again whenever something feels slow.”
- Your connection: Signal (Strong at −67 dBm or stronger, Fair down to −75 dBm, Weak below that), Above the noise, Band (for example 5 GHz · channel 100 · 160 MHz), Wi-Fi (its generation and link rate), Security, and Sign-in page (None in the way, In the way, or Couldn’t check).
- Also worth knowing: things that aren’t a fault but are worth knowing, such as “Your router is on a radar channel: 100.”
A gold dot beside Check in the sidebar means something is off. The numbers beside the other screens are counts: changes to make, slow replies in Pauses, networks heard in Neighbours.
Press Check Again (⌘R) to measure again after you change something.
