Get started with Vernacular
Press Read this Mac. In about ten seconds, one sentence says how many of your apps will keep working after macOS 27.
Vernacular reads every app and add-on on your Mac and tells you in plain English which ones will keep working after macOS 27, which ones stop, and what to do about each. It only reads: it never changes anything, and it never connects to the internet.
Steps
- The first time you open Vernacular, the welcome asks: Will your apps keep working after macOS 27?
- Press Read this Mac. While Reading 12 of 40 apps counts up, the roll fills in, one mark for each app. On most Macs it takes about ten seconds.
- If you keep apps in your own Applications folder, in your home folder, or on another disk, press Add a folder or disk too. Add a folder or disk
- When the read is done, the answer shows on the welcome. Press Show what it found to open the Overview.
After that, Vernacular reads your Mac each time you open it. Press Read again in the toolbar (⌘R) after you update or remove something, to see what changed.
Finding your way around
The sidebar sorts everything by kind:
- Overview: the answer, the roll and the crossing. The roll and the crossing
- APPS: All apps and Parts inside apps. Parts inside apps
- ADD-ONS: Printers and scanners, Audio plug-ins, Helpers and Background services.
- ALSO: Copies and Checklist, which come with the unlock. What does it cost?
A dot beside a section means something in it needs you. The number is how many it holds.
