What Vernacular reads

Audio plug-ins and audio drivers

An audio plug-in made only for Intel processors won’t load in your music apps after macOS 27; an audio driver’s device won’t appear.

Audio plug-ins in the sidebar lists the audio plug-ins and audio drivers on your Mac: Audio Units, VST and VST3 plug-ins, in your Mac’s Library folder and your own, and the drivers for audio devices.

  • An audio plug-in made only for Intel processors: “Music apps won’t load it.”
  • An audio driver made only for Intel processors: “The audio device it drives won’t appear.”

Both say WON’T RUN AFTER macOS 27, with a lane such as “Stops: the audio plug-in is Intel only.”

What to do

  1. Look on the maker’s site for a version (or, for an audio driver, a driver) made for Macs with Apple silicon, and install it.
  2. Read again here. A new version shows as running natively.
  3. If there isn’t one, it keeps working while this Mac stays on macOS 27.

For many audio makers, Open the maker’s site opens their own page about Apple silicon. Show the plug-in or Show the driver on the Overview shows where it is.
