Getting started

Reading the Overview

Free space, what's using the rest, and what you can get back now or with a little help.

The Overview is the first screen after a scan.

  • The gauge shows how much of your Mac's disk is free.
  • The bar under it splits the used space: purgeable, ready to clean, simulators, and everything else.
  • "… found" lists the categories Cachet can clean for you, with their sizes. Under it, "… ticked" is what Clean will move; items Cachet is less sure about wait for you to tick them.
  • "… with a little help" lists big space users macOS doesn't let App Store apps remove, such as simulators, Docker and iPhone backups. Each shows the one step that frees it. Why Cachet can't remove these
  • After a few scans, a line such as "Up 7.8 GB since Wed 21 Oct" shows how your used space changed and what grew most.
