What's in each category
Developer, package caches, app caches, old installers and logs, in plain English.
- Developer: Xcode build data (DerivedData), device support files, SwiftUI previews, simulator caches and Xcode archives. Most of it Xcode rebuilds when needed. Archives don't come back, so they're marked Review.
- Package caches: downloads kept by npm, Yarn, pip, Homebrew, Swift Package Manager, CocoaPods, Go, Playwright and Gradle. They download again when a project needs them.
- App caches: temporary files apps keep in your Caches folder, such as Chrome's and Spotify's. Apps rebuild them as you use them.
- Old installers:
.dmg,.pkg,.isoand.xipfiles in Downloads that haven't changed in 90 days. They don't come back, so Cachet never ticks them for you. - Logs: log files apps write while they run.
Cachet only lists an item when it uses at least 1 MB. The full list of locations
